Another week…

… And no material change in the demands on me. In Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass the Red Queen explains to Alice that she has to run as fast as she can to stay where she is; to get anywhere she has to run faster. Anyone else out there suffering from Red Queen Syndrome? Anyone know an effective cure?

Things haven’t been helped by what I supposed to be a cold. The best way to treat a cold is to ignore it and carry on as normal – it will go away. This nasty little virus took umbrage at being ignored and counterattacked, effectively putting me on my back for a couple of days. I now insist that I’ve recovered, and to all outward and visible signs I have. It’s only when I exert myself, e.g. by walking upstairs, that it become apparent that I’m not quite as fit as is customary.

Diagnosis? It was a cold, but contracted when the patient was already suffering from Red Queen Syndrome, which aggravated the symptoms and slowed recovery. I’m sure there’s a moral in it somewhere.

To hell with it. This week I’m going to do some writing!
