Sixteen years ago, many of us thought this quote referred to George W. Bush. Alas, we were wrong by a mile, as Trump will soon take his place. I’m so dismayed and disappointed with some of my friends and relatives, who seemed smarter than this, who often claimed moral high ground with their virtuous lives and religious attendance. How could they possibly vote for a man like Trump?
As one particularly religious zealot (a close relative) said, “We must not allow Clinton to appoint liberal Supreme Court judges. We must overturn Roe V. Wade, and Trump’s appointees will do that.” So he disregarded all else for a nearly 50-year long failed effort to make abortion illegal again.
I’m so discouraged.
‘Discouraged’ is the word, Mary. I suspect your relative has never had to patch up a patient who’s been butchered by a back-street abortionist. I can understand people who want to make money as back-street abortionists wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade, but how could such a retrograde legal move profit anyone else?
